7am Temp 74F, muggy and mosquitoey
6:30-7:00AM All six owls are still around, roosting for the last 5 days back in the pecan tree over the back fence, and bathing in the morning in the shallow dish on our back deck. This morning was the first time we’ve witnessed independent hunting on the part of a juvenile. This juvenile sat on a low perch (lower arm of canoe rack, west of kitchen), about 2 feet up, purposefully scanning the ground. At some point, it lofted silently to the ground and grabbed a cockroach among the dry leaves. Jays are yelling at the owl family as they bathe, and doves on the deck seem a little afraid to force their way to the water while the owls are at the bowl.
